How to manage your Notion page
General
Notion pages can be managed on desktop either on the Notion website, or installing a Notion desktop app. On mobile you can use Notion apps for both Android and iOS.
Editing texts
Just click the text you want to change and write! Keep in mind though, that once you have shared your page to the world, changes are made immediately visible for your visitors - no saving needed! (Which is cool. But something to keep in mind...) And when you make a mistake, just undo - as with any app.
Texts and their background colors are changeable in certain limits (there is pre-chosen nice palette of colors which always work together.) You can make texts bigger, smaller and change the font-theme of the page.
Images
To replace placeholder images, click on the little dotted menu icon at the top left corner of images. Click 'replace' and upload your own images. If your images are very big, it might be a good idea to resize them before uploading. In the template, food menu images have been cropped and resized to square 800x800 pixels before upload.
Map
Notion supports Google maps. If you want to show your location, first go to Google maps and search for your address. Zoom closer if needed. Copy the address from the address bar (the chosen zoom level will be remembered). Go back editing your page. Click the top-left menu of the map, same as with images above. Select 'replace' and paste the correct address there.
About your page's address
By default, Notion page URL (the address you will share and see in your browser's address bar) is quite long, random looking and not so easy to remember. At the moment of writing Notion doesn't yet support custom domains. That means:
You can't utilize your own domain name straight, exactly the same way as you could do with a dedicated web hosting or traditional web site builders. This might change someday.
But, read further as there are few things you can do to make your address more nice and easier to remember:
1. First:
Go to your Notion account settings and change the 'workspace domain' name. What that means, is explained below, taken from the Notion's help pages:
'By default, your workspace's public page URLs will be given a unique string as an identifier, such as
unique-string-100.notion.site
.If you've set your own workspace domain, it will be displayed at the start of public page URLs, such as
acme.notion.site
.'
Set the workspace domain name so that it reflects your business name as closely as possible. After that the first part of your address looks nice. The address still continues with some random number string. That may bother you or not, perhaps depending on where you need to show your page address. The template preview page is a good example. Have a look how its address is shown in the browser's address bar with this modification.
2. Next
You could get a paid account on Notion. In addition to other good things you'll get, that will give you the following option:
'If you have pages shared to the web, you'll be able to choose which one you'd like to display as a default home page, reachable at
domain.notion.site
.'
A nice and clean address without additional random strings, only the name you selected into the beginning of the address.
3. Then: Own domain + redirect to Notion *
You can purchase your own domain name (and perhaps you have one already?), like thisismysawesomerestaurantpage.com. From your domain's settings you are usually able to redirect domain to a Notion site. (Google search gives easy to follow videos for this).
There are also external paid services built upon Notion which give you more options, including full custom domain support. But that is another story already: this template is meant for the quickest start to the interweb!
Now, make this page yours!
